Your Child’s Well - Being Provision at Victoria Road Primary Road

Well - Being and positive mental health are important for everyone – children and adults alike. Without positive mental health, pupils cannot learn effectively. Here at Victoria Road Primary School we take this seriously and as such have set up a team to oversee this provision in the school and develop it further so that every child’s needs are met.

On the team are Pauline Rowley (Governor), Alice Hawksley (PSHE Lead and Inclusion Manager), Sue Vincent (FLO), Sue Alcock (School Business Manager), Roma Pariyar (Teaching Assistant),  and Kelly Collens (Headteacher). They meet every term to ensure that the school follows through actions that have been decided in the best interests of pupils.

Currently, all children who have identified needs with respect to social, emotional and mental health have in class support provided by their class teacher and teaching assistant. In addition, the class teachers for year groups 2-6, undertake 1:1 pupil conferencing with each individual to help them develop their self-confidence and to give them an opportunity to voice any concerns or worries they may have.

There is a specific focus on staff training too, with additional and extra training on strategies to identify and support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

In September 2020, a new statutory curriculum for Personal, Social and Health Education came into force for schools to deliver. At Victoria Road Primary Road, the staff are have already embedded the new legislation and developed the school’s ethos along those lines.

If you have any questions related to this provision, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Collens or Miss Hawksley to discuss them.
