Assessment
We continually assess children as part of on-going teaching and learning cycle in order to inform next steps. This is known as ‘assessment for learning’ or formative assessment. In addition to this, we use summative assessments at the end of a piece of learning or term to take a snapshot of where children are in terms of their progress towards meeting end of year expectations.

The table above shows the age expected step for each term for each year group. Below are steps relating to each year group in more detail. This will help you with curriculum activities for your child and also with homework opportunities.
At the end of the Summer Term your child may have a '+' next to the number. This means that your child is working at 'greater depth' in that subject. Learning in all areas is secure and transferred and applied in different contexts. Pupils can explain their understanding fluently to others.
Year R are assessed in the Early Learning Goals but as part of transition will be given a Step in Reading, writing and maths in Term 6.
