Inspiring a Love of Learning

Young Carers

A Young Carer is a children aged 5-18 who cares for a family member with a disability, long term illness, mental health condition or substance misuse issue. This could be a parent, sibling or relative living in their household.

The Caring Role could be practical. For example, the Young Carers could be giving medication, providing personal care or managing the household budgets and chores. The caring role may also involve emotional support such as listening to problems, talking about their loved ones feelings or giving them space.

If you think your child meets the criteria then please let us know and we can complete a referral for them.

You can find more information here:

At Victoria Road Primary School we also run our own termly Young Carers group where the children get to have some downtime and talk to each other or us. This is run by Miss Alice Hawksley (Inclusion Manager) and Sue Vincent (FLO).

Have a look below to see our display and read some of the comments from our Young Carers.
